What is Timo, and what can it do?

Timo is an in-car AI social robot designed for companionship and interaction. It can have natural conversations with you and respond with expressions, movement, lighting, and audio. Over time, Timo builds personalized memories and gets to know your preferences better. Optional social features add moments of surprise to every drive.

Does Timo work with any car?

Yes. Timo is a standalone aftermarket device and does not need to connect to your vehicle’s built-in systems. Simply mount it on a suitable flat dashboard surface and connect it to vehicle power using the included car charger and USB-C cable. No tools or professional installation are required.

What is included in Core Membership, and what happens after the first year?

Every Timo includes one year of Core Membership, covering core AI conversations, Social Play, and memory features within the included usage limits. Timo Max also includes a monthly 4G data allowance. Exact allowances, renewal options, and pricing will be shown before checkout and again before renewal. A paid membership will not begin without your confirmation.

Is the microphone always listening?

Timo listens locally only for the wake phrase “Hi Timo.” It begins processing your request only after detecting the wake phrase. Audio before activation is not uploaded to the cloud or saved as conversation history.

How does Timo use location, and can other users see where I am?

Timo’s built-in GPS supports location-based features and social discovery. Your precise, real-time location is not publicly displayed to other users. You can turn off Social Play at any time in the YiLink App.

 

How do Timo’s social features work?

Social features are entirely optional and can be turned off at any time. When the Easter Egg feature is enabled, users can discover or leave voice messages, images, or AI-generated voice surprises.

 

Is Timo safe to use while driving?

Timo is designed for voice-first interaction, but no device is completely distraction-free. Set up or adjust Timo only while parked, mount it where it does not block your view, vehicle controls, or airbags, and always follow local traffic laws. Keep your attention on the road, and never rely on Timo for navigation, emergency assistance, or driving decisions.
